I took my T/C Omega to my sister's to do the final sighting in using the load I'll hunt white tails with this year. Settled on a 295 gr HP powerbelt over two 50 grain 777 pellets. I'm not the best shot by a long means but I was pleased when I could get a 2 inch group at 75 yards. Since most of the shots in the middle east are less the 50 yards I felt pretty good about my final load. Since my sister has several horses she is not fond of ground hogs. I saw 3 as I pulled into her farm. Saturday afternoon I caught one wandering across her yard. I run to the car, grab two pellets, a primer, and a bullet. Run back into the house to see where the whistle pig is now. He has crossed the yard and is at the end of a hedge row. I step out onto her deck, load the gun and start across the yard. My daughter spots another pig from the deck further out in the field. I can't see this one but the first one has now come through the hedge row and is about 35 yards away. I turn the scope down to 4x, shoulder the gun, wrap the sling around my arm and pull back the hammer. I see the cross hairs on the ground hog's shoulder and don't remember squeezing the trigger. After the smoke clears I walk about 10 yards the the pig is lying with all fours in the air. I think, if I can cap a whistle pig off-hand at 35 yards, a white tail should be no problem. When checking the pig, the 295 gr bullet has about half gutted him. Now this is a way to build your confidence for deer season that starts in several weeks!
