I finally got my new Marlin all lined out! I had to use a washer under the head of the rear action mounting screw as the screw was too long and was contacting the bottom of the bolt. The factory trigger was terrible. I installed a Rifle Basix trigger, and now that I have it adjusted correctly it is incredible! I can't say enough good about the Rifle Baxix product. I only fired one five shot group at 50 yards to test for accuracy. Remember that this is a brand new rifle to me, not much practice. I put the first 3 rounds into 1 hole the last two were thrown off by me yet still only opened the group to 1/2" at 50 yards. I am satisfied with this rifle now, however be aware that they do need some work out of the box to be acceptable to an experienced shooter, still a great value.

Sounds like you have things going your way. I don't own a Marlin bolt action, but those that do report good accuracy after the trigger tweaking/replacing. Rifle Basix gets a "thumbs up" from most folks. Marlin, like most other firearm makers today, is so afraid of litigation that they let those rifles out of the factory with a terrible trigger.

Have the 880Sq modified trigger and it works well with aguilla subsonics. Hope you are as happy with yurs as I am with mine.

I'm thinking about getting a 981T too. However, your post about the trigger has me backing off. What does the replacement trigger you referenced cost? Where do you get one? What is involved in changing it out with the original trigger? Can an all thumbs guy like me do this? TIA!

Rifle basix trigger is about 85-100 dollars. I have the old trigger and lightened it myself the new one's I don't know anything about. I was told the RB replacement is a drop in by some on the old marlin talk forum,

I'm glad someone has interest in the 981T. The trigger is terrible out of the box. I bought my Rifle Basix trigger from Midway USA for about $57.00. It is very simple to install. Remove the two action mounting screws, remove barreled action from stock, remove e-clip and pin retaining stock trigger, repalce trigger and spring with new Rifle Basix part. After this modification both trigger pull weight and takeup are adjustable. It is easy to do this, however you will need to read the instructions, and I highly recommend checking the firearm for function after any modification. With the addition of this trigger and a BSA Sweet 17 scope I have a GREAT squirrel rifle! I am a man who appreciates function over impressing someone with a more expensive gun. This marlin is now a great rifle, not as nice looking as a CZ, but a good shooter. I hope this helps.

I decided to go ahead and take a chance on the 981T. I like everything I've read about it except the trigger. I think I'll see just how bad it is. I'm used to shooting rifles with rough triggers. Many folks say the SKS and C&R Mosins and Mausers have rough triggers but I've been able to adapt to them. Maybe I'll luck out on the 981T too. Thanks for info. about where to buy/how to change out trigger though. I'll probably wind up doing it sooner or later.
