Simmons ATV??
« on: October 04, 2004, 02:29:30 PM »
Does anyone have any experience with this scope....i believe they only make one model the 4.5-14x40 AO........so what are the conclusions about the scope.........I have heard very good things about them from RFC, and plan on mounting the scope on a still hunting/varmint (squirrels and rabbit) .22lr setup......and it will be used  while I deer hunt........so weight or size does not matter.......what are your opinions?? (OH yea the gun I decided on is the Marlin 981T, for $135 at Wallly World.......any opinions on that choice??)

Thanx and I look forward to hearing from you!!

I have bought several of these from walmart. A very nice scope for the money. I have used them on 22's, 223's, 22/250's, 25/06's, and 17HMR's. Never had one fail yet. Adjustments are good and they have all held zero after extended prairie dog shoots. Optics are very clear. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another in a heart beat.   KN

Two things in my opinion:
Adjustable Objective and reliable operation
Bad eye relief/exit pupil at higher powers

This was one of my first scopes.  It is reliable but my third scope is a Leupold VX-2 and there is no way to compare the two.  I did NOT believe all of the talk about the differences in lens coatings and such.  I figured that it was like with stereos or whatever that only 10% of people would notice the difference.  Well, with the Simmons glass and the Leupold glass there is no comparision.  On bright days the Simmons is cloudy and washed out.

This is an apples and oranges comparision.  But the Simmons ATV has been very reliable for me.  I shoot it on the .223, by the way, wouldn't put it on a larger gun.
