Here is something for you.

I used to see weird stuff while in the Army, but riding trains for Union Pacific at all hours of the night /day has been strange.

Several time we have had weird lights follow us (kinda makes things hairy when you have to walk a 2 mile long train at night). The lights didn't look normal because they would fade in and out, and then disappear, only to reappear again.

Here is the kicker. There has been indian legends forever that there is a race of small humans in the Medicine Bow area that are carniverous (yes that includes you and I). The strange part is that there were several 12" tall mummified "humans" found in this area in the early 20th century, one was even displayed in the Smithsonian (if you think I am making this up, check it out.) Anyway, Myself and several other Conductors and Engineers have seen human like forms running on four legs right in front of our unit, but we never hear the ping off of our snow plows.

These are just some of the strange things seen in the outdoors on a train.

Oh yeah, here is some food for thought:

4 modern main line locomotives traveling at 60 mph have 8.8 billion foot/lbs of energy. That is without the rest of the 10 million pound train. Still wanna run that crossing?

Welcome aboard. I`m retired from the BN/SF RR. So I know what you mean by strange things that happen at night. I worked out of Tulsa, Okla and ran to Springfield Missouri, and sometimes to Fort Scott Kansas. Alot of strange sightings, on them night runs, and then like you said, the train goes into bighold, and we have to walk the tracks, to find the problem.
Anyhow enjoyed your story.

Yeah, spill the beans. What ya see? And what does going into bighold mean? Us non RR types don't know. Well at least this one don't.

Hi Graybeard

Sorry, us old RR`s sometimes forget that other people don`t know what were talking about. The RR, has a language all of its own, :-D .
But Bighold, means different things. For instance if a car try`s to beat the train to the crossing, the engineer Bigholds, the train. When he pulls the bighold lever, it shoots the air throughout the train, and makes the rods, push the brakeshoes against the wheels. Course, it still will take us up to and sometimes over a mile before we get stopped, cause of all the weight. The car that didn`t make it, is usually smashed up under the engine a drug for the same distance. A horrible death.
But other times, on those lonely night travels, at early a.m., the train will go into bighold for no reason. So we have to walk the entire train, to see if maybe an airhose didnt come uncoupled or a car didnt come off the track. It seems like its always in the most inhospitable terraine. On the side of a deep hill, or on a long bridge, or its raining cats and dogs, or there`s a tornado warning out, and you dont know where the tornado is at. :shock:
I`ve seen mt.lions, hobos, in the middle of nowhere, and asking for a cigarette in the middle of the night, coming out the dark woods :shock: , Tornados, and once a big upright person or animal of such size, that me and the engineer, could only think of it being a bigfoot. It was about 02:30 in the morning and 15 miles from the nearest town, in the middle of nowhere, no roads for 15 miles.
Anyhow like I was saying when you have seen the above , and then the train goes into bighold, you have to go back into the dark and find the problem and hope not to run into any of the above :eek: :-D :-D
One of the weirdest things though is some (3 ) egg shaped objects, about the size of a small compact car, followed us for 25 miles through the night in the boondocks, the were flying about 30 to 50 ft high, colored bronze , or thats what the light were? dunno.
I`m sure some of the over the road truck drivers, have a lot of strange sightings as well.

I've looked, but can't find any info on the 12" mummies you mentioned, or the "Medicine Bow little people". Can you point me in the right direction?

For some reason, that really interested me, and I'd love to find out more about it.

SAWgunner; I was just looking at the bigfoot reporting site mentioned on a post here and while just browsing there is a "legend" section and in it they(indians) mention "Little People" and something called a "wood devil" too. Then i just read your post about little people and it just clicked? Sorry if i'm a little slow sometimes but the more we dig into this stuff the stranger it gets. BigBill

Seems like most of the Early Americans considered the Big Man a spirit being who showed up in the time of trouble or stress. The people who have close encounters with "space aliens" say the same thing. These things have their root in the occult.
