8MM-06 in a M48 yugo... opinons?

I'm building a new unissued barreled action yugo, I want to rechamber just cause I can and need a new caliber for my brain. The 8MM-06 looks like a junior gunsmith like myself could do this at home with hand power.
Is this a hand ream job? and dose anyone have expirance with loading for it? Help with the addiction I gotta have something new and not quite run of the mill if ya know what I mean.

Sounds like fun. Is the m48 action (intermediate) suitable for '06 length cartridges ? Might be some magazine lengthening involved on a intermediate size action.
  I have a friend that uses the 8mm06 on everything from muledeer to elk. He loves this cartridge better than his 300 win mag.

I am fairly certain that the M48 action is not long enough to accomodate 06 length cartridges.  

What about 9.3x57, if you want soemthing new and different?

If you want to play with a wildcat, why not a 8mmX08.   like the Remington7mm08 only 8mm?

If you check with RCBS, they might even have a set of dies made for it already.

That's a lot more metal than I would want to hand ream. Way too much chance of a bad chamber.

Where did you find your barrel? I need one.

Thanks all,   The action will feed 30-06s I've tried that, but the mag well will havr to be worked on. Right now the longest  OAL it will hold is  3.193 and I load my 8x57 with 220gr sierras out to that, a little short for an 06 thou. I have looked it over and I think I can make the mag well longer  with a dremel and a TIG,  the lathe work is the problem,  but I might do it anyway just farm out the ream job.   I've also played with some ouaght 6 cases in my 8mm dies and they expand the neck just fine but won't do it for the shoulder, would fire forming be enuff?  I got the barreled action from Mitchels Mausers in as new condition for 175.00 you could drop this into a piece of lumber and have a fine rifle with just some cleaning. Thats to easy, I'm into this for the experiance and learning new things.

  I plan on cutting the barrel back to 18 to 20 inches, putting it in a Monte Carlo stock and putting a Burris 2.75 scout scope on it this should be a mean woods hammer.  I may magna port it to help with muzzle climb, recoil isn't bad with the 8mm but I think muzzle climb will be pretty stout.

  I also bought one of there actions only. 125.00  and it looks like it was just made not 50+ years old. This is gonna be a complete custom rifle when I figure out exaclly what I want it to be.


I've also been playing with the trigger and have gotten the mil tigger to breack at 4# without the tow stage pickup and crisp no creep should be fine for a woods gun but  I want it a little lighter for the bench.

I looked into tis 6 or 7 years ago.  Other than being neat it's not feasible.  For what you want the 8mm. is the cat's meow.  Remember factory loads are held down because all of those 1888 comision rifles wit .318 bores.  Since the 8mm.-06 is a handloading propisition anyway load your8mm. to it's full potential.  There's no flies on what you've got!  Essex County
