stock fit
« on: October 05, 2004, 03:49:58 PM »
I have read many tales of the forearms on the stocks of the handi's needing a little shaving to prevent rubbing and transferring vibration.  Well, I have noticed on my 30-06 that where the forearm slips over the screw receiver, it is a pretty snug fit.  Does everyone elses do the same thing, or does that hole need to be widened a bit?  It seems to me that with that snug a fit, it will definitely transfer vibration from the barrel.
Thanks,
Michael

kysingleshot, look down in the centerfire thread and read the post there entitled "Barrel Looseness".
Please do not open up the hole for the forearm screw, the tightness you speak of should not adversely affect accuracy unless it is really almost to tight to open or close and will just add looseness to the opened action gun.
If you must, change the plastic spacer to a slightly thinner one. My suggestion for the best course of action is to let it wear in to just where it needs to be for your particular gun. It should not take to long, opening and closing the action a few hundred times and/or firing potent loads both seem to wear it in just fine.
Until that time you might try a bit of teflon based liquid lubricant between the plastic spacer and where it contacts the action...<><....
