LBT .41 cal mold
« on: October 06, 2004, 04:28:58 AM »
Veral, I see that the heaviest bullet mold that LBT sells in .41 caliber is 250 grain. Is this the realistic upper limit for a .41 mag or are heavier bullets practical (I'm thinking big game hunting and silhouette comp)?

Thanks

I think its the best or most practical heavyweight for big game, but will cut any weight you want.  I've made a few 300 grainers and the customers were happy, but maximum velocity will be enough lower that killing punch is sacrificed on large game.  Don't be concerned about penetration on game up to moose.  250 gr will hammer them.

Iron targets get hammered hardest with big weight, even though speed is down, and probably 280 + grain would be best for that purpose.

I still make most molds custom, as the orders are received, even though my catalog portrays the impossible dream of putting in a huge stock for instant shipping.   So if the catalog doesn't offer a weight or diameter that you want, order what you want, for oddball guns or whatever.  I'll let you know if I can't make it, but you'll probably get the mold you want with no questions from me.
