I was thinking of buying a box of these to test in my 300 Weatherby.  For the time being, I am going for tight groups, and want to switch to a bullet more geared for that.  My question lies in which weight should I go with?  I'd prefer the 168gr, heard alot about their use in shooting matches.  And, being they will be used in a magnum they will definitley exceed 3000fps.  According to Sierra, the B.C. will be at .462 when above 2600fps.  What do you all think, a good choice?  Or are there better weights/brands to consider?  The other thing I noticed at their website, is they list twist rates on their bullet charts.  The .308" bullet chart say 1 in 9" twist rates, but what confuses me is they have a few different 7mm bullet listings in the same category.  So I assume they would stand for the optimum ROT with the 308 caliber, but my rifle has 1 in 10" twist.    Is that neither here nor there, or could that be detrimental to the accuracy of that bullet?  Thanks in advance. :D   Patriot

For target shooting at distance.....most of the time we use a heavy for caliber bullet.  I would suggest using the 240gr MK.  It's higher BC will give dividends down range with wind bucking and energy.  If you cannot use the 240gr because of twist rate, use the heaviest possible that will stabilze.

For the time being, my range for paper is limited to 100yds, so I am not too concerned with long range effectivness, as yet.  I'm hoping to eventually go to another range out our way that has different distances.  They can go 100yds-1000yds, depending on what is going on.  They ocassionally hold 1000yd matches, but the range is closed to the public at those times; it requires the entire length of the target range, and only the contestants can get in and shoot.  But either way, my average distance will run at 100yds. for the time being.  Patriot

The .308 Sierra MK in .308 is 1.210" in length.  The ideal twist for velocities under 2800 FPS is 1:12; for over 2800 FPS it is 1:14..

Your 1:10 ratio is good for bullets ranging between 1.356" and 1.497", at under 2800 FPS.

Take a look at the Palma 155 grain Sierra MK.  That's the go to bullet for 800, 900 and 1000 yard competition.
