I finally got my wish list a little smaller I found one of my holy grails well two of them this year.  My first one was a swedish ljungman which i never expected to find one so cheap.  My next one is an FN49 VENE in 7MM while it wasn't so cheap it was a lot less than the current market value.  I never shot an FN49 yet my LUX 30-06 and Egyptian 8MM are ready to go soon as I pickup my 7mm too.  They sure are a bygone era in military rifles besides real wood and a solid steel reciever they just have that feel.
What do the FN49's owners think of them here?        BigBill :D

how much did you pay for your AG42? i paid $220 CDN, and the guy i bought it off of had dropped the price from 400 to 250 before i made him an offer. i think i got a pretty good deal. can't what for it to arrive,i'm having trouble sleeping and concentrating on my job!

I picked it up for $350 its a 1943 AG42B Ljungman. The guy had a rasheed, swede m96 mauser and a hakim too.                 BigBill

Those FN 49's are Very nice weapons.
They really just don't make them like they used too!
Does your 7mm have a cream colored varnish on the stock?
Ours does,and it makes it look really nice.

S.Sumner how have you been?  My FN49 Luxemborg 30-06 has the blonde colored stock.  My egyptian 8mm amd the Vene 7mm have redish color stocks.  But the Vene has awesome tiger striping the best i've ever seen on the FN49's. :D                                              BigBill

a rasheed is also a varient of the AG42, is it not? what caliber is it and how different does it look/handle from the original?

The Egyptian Rasheed looks like they shrunk a ljungman/hakim down to the size of an sks.  The calbier of a rasheed is 7,62x39.  It operates/functions the same as the ljungman and hakim.  I think the plus over the other 7.62x39 guns is its adjustable gas system.     BigBill

I've been on vacation so I havn't been posting that much!
Make sure to wear hearing protection when you fire that
7mm FN49!. The flash hider/ recoil reducer on ours
seems to make it MUCH louder than my other 7 mm's.

Thanks for the tip on the loudness of the FN49 7mm  I hope i can shoot it ok, i won't be as accurate as you dad(gunnery sarge) i won't be able to see the caps on the jugs let alone hit them.  The 7mm is a pretty flat shooting round.  I think its an over looked caliber by many collectors because not too many talk about it.                            BigBill
