Looking for a Rem. 788 Bolt.
« on: October 08, 2004, 02:21:01 AM »
A friend asked me to post this. Anyone have a bolt assy. for a Remington 788? He needs one for a short action with the .473 bolt face... I.E., .22-250, .243, or .308. Tried all the usual sources...Thanks.

I've seen such things on EBAY but I'd post these requests on the various BB classifieds strings.

Looking for a Rem. 788 Bolt.

The 788's came in three action lengths. Short-.44mag, Long-.222,.223,22-250, Ex-long .243, 6MM, 7-08, .308, 30-30. The .44 and the 30-30 were two piece bolts that had a seperate front piece to accomodate the rimmed cases. You might find a bolt at "Gun Parts corp" W. Hurley NY. These bolts are hard to find and if you have a broken one you might be better off getting it repaired.  The bolt handle is brazed on so it will have to be removed to re-heat treat the bolt after repair. then reattached after the heat treating is done. This is not a job for the hobby gunsmith you'll need a good metalsmith.
