Buying a new mid Range Outboard
« on: January 22, 2003, 12:59:13 PM »
I have been running around trying to find a deal on a mid range 4 stroke for my seventeen footer.  I was happy with the dealership when I bought it years ago, but.........................

I have checked with a number of dealers, hit a couple of boat shows and have checked out dealers with the BBB.  Buyer beware.  Dealers wanting $1500 difference on the same motor.  The hign price dealer also wanted a few hundred more then the other dealer to install.

Dealers trying to sell outdated motors for a very high price to the unsuspecting.  Do you trust them after they played their game!

Advise buyers to research.  One dealer told me that I must be retired to be out doing research.  I guess they live off the over worked.  I have also meet some very helpful folks so it is not all negative.  Shop with care.

Man this was a dead one.

I purchased a 60HP Mecury 4-stroke.  Drove the dealers nuts, given good advice, fed a bunch of bull, and made my choice.

Just delivered the boat to the dealer to have the motor installed.  Pricy to repower but cheaper then a new boat.  Happy with the current boat, and the tax man does not eat me alive.

The Dem's just want to keep raising taxes in California.  Need to send the Gov. back to New York.
