Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum, but I need a little help.
I've been wanting a 30/30 lever gun for a while.
I've shot a few of them and I seem to like them all.
A local pawn shop has a Winchester (think its a 94 but not for sure)
anyway what are some thigs i should look for before buying it ?
(price $150)

Larry: I have been looking for one for several months, and the cheapest I've seen a Winchester 94 30.30 in well worn condition is $200. A friend of mine has been wanting one, and told me $200 was as cheap as he had seen them. That's why I started looking, as I couldn't believe they were that high. I sold one in the early ninties, in excellent condition for $125. Having bought a few guns at a pawn shop, I can tell you that if you make a reasonable offer they will usually take it. I'd offer 15 to 25% less and see if he'll move a little.

$200 wow maybe I'd better jump on this while I've got the chance.
Most the pawn shops around here don't keep those guns very long
seeing how most hunting areas around here are pretty thick woods
thats the main cause I'm wanting one.Besides I think lever actions
are beutiful guns when cleaned up & restored.

$150 for a lever gun in decent shape is a reasonable price, especially a Winchester. They go for around $200+ during the fall. If the finish and bore are in good shape, buy it!

I'd say it's worth another look. I thought I'd be able to find a good one at around that price, but so far, nothing.....

i prefer the older top eject models to the angle eject ones
the main thing to look for is that the sights arent adjusted way off center
try the action it should be smooth, not tight at the closing
as with any gun check the bore with a bore light look for dings pits or shadows that might be a bulged barrel. usually though most of the 94,s were shot with factory bullets so there is usually no damage other than maybe neglect to clean.
oh yeah one last thing try the trigger you will want a light crisp one
