25-06 for Coyotes
« on: October 10, 2004, 11:51:33 AM »
I went squirrel hunting at my uncle's place Saturday morning and there were a couple of coyotes howling early in the morning. When I was done hunting, I talked to my uncle and he said something about trying to get rid of some of the coyotes on his place. He owns a little woods but, most of it is two hay fields about 200 yards x 500 yards. I've got a friend whose grandpa has a couple of calls that we could use.

I was wondering what the type of bullet I should use in my 25-06. It's the only centerfire I own. I don't care about keeping the hide. There are houses around so, I need something that won't ricochet.

I would think that about any lead nose Bullets would work ok. Get the lightest bullets you can find, That way the velocity will tend to blow them up there by not rirocheting. You could also use hollow points, They will blow up on impact. Good luck and stay safe........Joe.........

squirrel_hunter6,

I own three .25-06's and as long as pelt damage isn't a question and ricochet are I would go with either the 85 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmint or the 75 gr. Hornady V-Max.  I prefer the Nosler for longer ranges.  Lawdog

squirrel_hunter6,

Ricochets and the 90 gr. Sierra HP kind of go together.  I wish you luck.  Lawdog
