Well, I don't know about the preferred loading. I'm kinda partial to either the 230 gr Golden Saber/230 gr Gold Dot/ or the 230 Ranger SXT. I carry one or the other in all my 45s. All of these are good penetrators, even in my compacts.

Guntests gave them a huge thumbs up...that is for human size targets...less penitration then some others...
they are hard to find, but you can always  order them online...
I like gold dot ammo too...
