Mauser scout scope mount
« on: October 11, 2004, 10:29:14 AM »
I've read here recently somewhere about an inexpensive IER scope mount to take the place of the rear sight but I can't find where it was now.  I know that the one that Mitchell's Mausers sells runs about $55ish.  Seems like someone mentioned a very similar one for $20ish.  Anyone know which one it is?

While I'm asking questions, Badnews Bob said that there was a taller front sight for a 6.5xsomething swedish rifle that will bring the point of impact down on target using the stock rear sight.  Anyone know which one he is talking about and where I could get one?

Dear Haywire.

Numrich Arms  Co. (formerly, Gunsparts Co.) sells the tall replacement front sights for the Swede.   After you install it, you may have to file it down to get it down a little.

Best Regards,

IIRC, B-Square makes a scout mount for Mausers. Now, I will not atest to their quality, but the mount might work perfectly for you; I have no idea of the cost.

As for the Swede high front sight, I picked-up some over a year ago from Sarco @ $12.95 ea - item # SWM012. I do not know if they are still available or if that part # is still correct.

Haywire:  may I opine, Sir..  Thank ya!  You can find the Swedish tall front sights at either Numrich as Big Paulie mentioned or at Samco, or Sarco.  One of the later two sell a kit with blades of different heights.  Also, the Brownells catalog sells a replacement front sight blade for Mausers but you have to file it down to get it to hit.  However, they also have a formalary for figuring out how high or low your front sight has to go to get it to hit where ya want it without adjusting the rear sight blade. So, you could figure out how tall a blade you need to bring your poi to poa at your determined distance.

Yes, one of those firms, or Federal Arms, sells the rear sight replacement scout scope mount for those rifles.  I dunno, the looks appeals to me but the fuction doesn't.  I'm much more accustomed to a short eye relief scope than one of the longer ones - some guys are really quick on those but I'm not one of them.

If you are dealing with a Yugo 48/48A, I would tap it, scope it, trigger it right and enjoy the hay out of it.  That would then be a take anywhere, do anything kind of rifle.  But all this is just my two cents worth.  Mikey.
