Am I the only one who would like to see a Matte Stainless Synthetic 7600 in 35 Whelen?  Talk about the ultimate "Guide Gun" (whatever that is).  Set up with either ghost ring sights or a forward mounted scope and  perhaps a 20" barrel.  Super fast, reliable, accurate (my 7600 was), weather resistant, ample stopping power, quick reloading by inserting a new mag.  Much more useful than my Marlin 1895G.

Any thoughts?

Check out the 7600 Police Gun. It might be the closest thing you'd get from the factory w/out any modifications. The only drawback is it only comes in 308 Win.

I just finished bore sighting my Remington "mini" guide gun. It is the special run  Remington 7600 18" barrel carbine in 35 Remington that I bought from Grices last year. I put a Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 matte finish scope on using the Leupold Rifleman detachable see-thru rings. I bought the scope and rings at the Cabela store in Hamburg PA this past Sunday as I was passing thru. The scope was $129.99 and the rings and mount came to $26.98. Should be handy for deer and bear in the woods this year. My 7400 in 30-06 was getting heavy!

I still need a scope for the 7600 35 Whelen that I also bought last year. That will have to wait funds. I want to use the Nikon Monarch and Warn quick-detach rings.

But to answer your question, Yes a 7600 SS carbine in 35 Whelen would be the cats a$$. I hope Remington is not listening because as you can see I am backed up as it is! I still want the 7400 carbine in .280 Remington and the 7600 rifle in 25-06. MIKE.

Mike103, Wait till you get out to the range with that 35 Remington. I bought one last year also and have never been happier with a rifle. It is just flat out awesome!! I put a Vari-X II 1-4*20 on mine and removed the sights. This combo is great for woods hunting. Yes I am under gunned in some situations, but not very times and besides, I wouldn't shoot that far at a deer even if I could because I am not a good long range shot. I know my limitations and am not afraid to admit them. If you are interested in a pretty good price on a 280 carbine, drop me a PM.

My 7600 35 Whelen that I had was pleasantly accurate.  I sold it when I left Alaska.  Been kicking myself ever since.  Doesn't Remington's website show a special run of laminate stock 7600's in 25-06 this year?  If not sorry for the false alarm.

Now imagine the same gun I described in the original post with a high quality ten round magazine.  Talk about a fight stopper.

257Roberts, I did shoot it last year with the rifle sights only. Shot great. I was going to go with the low mounted scope but thought I would try the see thru mount. Last year the weather in up-state NY was brutal and my scope iced up. I did PM you a while back but I guess it did not go thru. I found a good price on the .280 carbine but funds are low. I bought the Remington 1100 Sporting clays this summer in both 20 and 28 gauge so money is tight. There is a 760 on gunsamerica.com in 257 Roberts but the guy is asking $800. MIKE.
 
Paul, Yes that is the 7600 in 25-06 that I am talking about. I want a 257 Roberts but the 25-06 is close enough. Grices is offering the 7600 in 35 Whelen again this year.  MIKE.

We think alike Paul.  It is for the reasons you originally described that I did NOT buy the Marlin Guide gun and opted for the 7600 Whelen.

I might not cut it down after all, because 22" isn't bad for a carrying rifle.  I mounted a 1.5x-6x Millett Buck Gold Illuminated Reticle using Warne QD rings, have a Williams hooded Firesight up front and, when detaching the Millett, put a quick-detachable XS "back-up" ghost ring sight onto my Weaver base over the receiver.  I have a couple Mega-Mag blued steel 10 rd. magazines for it.  Properly loaded with one 310 gr. Woodleigh softnose followed by 9 310 gr. roundnose FMJ Woodleighs, and strapped out with a nice tactical 3-point sling, I think I have just about the deadliest damn weapon that goes afield anywhere in North America.  Of course, you can use lighter bullets for deer!  :-D

Paul,
            Took my .308 760 from 1977 vintage, cut barrel to 17.5 inches
put 1 x 4 Leo on it with Uncle mikes sling.  Shoots great, has alot of muzzle flash (if I miss deer are blinded) and is great in a tree stand.  17 .5 inch
barrel does not balance well when being carried.  Remington is missing the boat in my opinion by not offering other calibers in the 7600.
