Hi Question about Handi-Rifle
« on: October 12, 2004, 05:45:19 AM »
HI, my name is Justin. I'm looking for a new hunting rifle before deer season starts here in texas. I have been real interested in the Handi-Rifles. I have a few questions before I purchase one though. Im mostly going to be using it for deer and hogs. I have narrowed it down to the .270, .280, or the 30-06. I would like to know which one of these anyone would think would be best for me. Which one is most accurate? Which one has the better range? Any help would be appreciated. Justin

They are about equal. The 270 shoots a little flatter but the 30-06 has a larger selection of bullets and weights. Check some of the ammo ballistic tables. You can't go wrong with either. I like 7mm's so my choice would be the 280.

PA Joe
Welcome
My choice would be the '06 but the 280 comes in a 26" barrel if that is important to you.

A look at the remington factory web site will show you the ballistics that prove the difference between the trajectory of the 270-280-30-06 is really non-existant.

Maybe 2" flatter at 400yds.  Go to this link
http://www.remington.com/NR/exeres/000015acwzzhyysbkseubkkp/RemArms+Product+Group.asp?NRMODE=Published&NRORIGINALURL=%2fammo%2fballistics%2fballistics%2ehtm&NRNODEGUID=%7b4F84126C-5E11-4B1F-89E6-95AB18499B6A%7d&NRQUERYTERMINATOR=1&cookie%5Ftest=1
and see for yourself.  That said, the bullet selection for the 280 is better than 270 and the '06 is better yet.

If you'll ever go after anything bigger, get the '06 now.  You can always load it down.

I like my 280 mainly because it can be loaded out to the lands with the 140 gr. and larger bullets. With the 150 gr.Rem. corlokts it clocks 2975 in the 26" barrel, and the recoil is very easy on the shoulder.  Digger

Hi Justin, Welcome to GBO! :D  My first thought would be to ask you if you intend to handload for this rifle? Makes a difference as the .270 has way more factory ammo options than the .280, and as said, the .30-06 even more.

Handi,

If you would use a format like {url=whateveritis]link or whatever you want to call it[/url] the url can be compressed.  The first bracket needs to be a"[" instead of a "{".
