Which bow, Mathews Outback$$ or FX$?
« on: October 12, 2004, 08:42:07 AM »
:D Hi guys haven't been on GBO in awhile. Here's my question and sad to say it's based on money. I recently went to a pro shop to get my 10 year old son a bow for Christmas. Myself, I've been out of bowhunting for about 5 years. Since my son is interested in archery, I'm getting excited and wanting to get back in. I know for sure I'm going to get a Mathews, no question about it. I've been researching a little on archery equipment(mainly on this forum) I want and need to out fit the bow. I know I've been out of the game for awhile, but when I got to pricing some of the equipment, it's pretty staggering. I would just like to know what you guys think abou the big differences between the Outback and the FX. I held them and liked them both. I didn't get to shoot either one, because I wasn't purchasing that day. The price I was quoted on the FX was $399 and the price on the Outback was $607. The man there told me if I was going to spend that much anyway, I'm better off going ahead with the Outback, I wouldn't be sorry. I know he's probably right he's been in archery over 30 years. I just thought I'd see what you guys thought about it. I have some time on this because it will be after the first of the year before I buy it.

I would strongly recommend the outback over the FX. The outback is a very high quality bow. I have 2 Mathews bows myself, a Legacy and a Q2XL. I have been kicking around about getting the outback but my Legacy has been a great shooting bow. If I did not have my Legacy I would get the outback.  :D

Thanks Redhawk1, I always trust the opinions of you guys in this forum. While I got your attention, could I get your take on a good release for a d-loop  and a good drop-away rest. I appreciate your time for listening to a guy with a lot of questions.

WEll since he is new to bowhunting i would get the cheaper FX. I have a Fx and think it is great, i am confident with it and like it, the only thing i wish is that it had a 65 lb max instead of a 60 lb like it has.
