wolf ammo in the 223 need input
« on: October 13, 2004, 12:59:53 PM »
OK  went to walmart in search of these majic 45gr jhp in the value box made by winchester..  They had none : typical walmart, hate that place.
How will the wolf 55gr hp perform in these rifles?  Really want some true users of this stuff to answer.  I have had good luck with thwe wolf branf in SKS rifles that i own.  Cant knock the 762x39 stuff.
Anybody out there use the 55gr hp in their handi???
tried the winchester fmj 55gr,  rifle did not like it
american eagle was ok

Thanks
Jeff

Jeffery;

I tried the wolf in 55gr. in my 223 Ultra, it shot great, point of aim was the same as the Win 45JHP's. BUT...... there is a catch. In my rifle it HAD to be the green laqured cases. Bought three boxes of the stuff. Well decided to order from Sportsmans Guide, They had some for about $36.00 for 240 rounds. So I ordered some. When they arrived they were the polymer coated steel cases, grey in color. Tried to shoot these but my groups opened up to FIVE+ inches. :x  pure JUNK! Also on every case when they seated the bullet you could see where they had shaved the bullet during the seating process. Very bad QC. And to make things worse I have a Ruger Mod 77 MKII in 7.62X39 and the same holds true for those rounds. Green cases shot sub two inches for five shots. Tried the polymer coated grey steel cases and those groups opened up to 5+ inches. :x  I wont buy any Wolf ammo if they are not the green cases. Just thought I would let you know. Good Shooting.

Dennis  :D

I used them in a AK-74 styled .223 and they did great. But, I don't think they are as picky as our beloved Handi Rifles are.

THE WOLF 223 AMMO IS JUNK
stay away from this cheap import steel case stuff.you might want to try some Black Hills ammo in your handi rifle.Black Hills is some reloaded USA quality ammo and the price is good.

if you are looking for some good shooting 22 rimfire ammo then i would try the Wolf Match Target ammo, this is great ammo and is made in Germany not in China or Russa like some of the other imported Wolf ammo

 Dang jeff obviously doesn't like Wolf..[it's a fact ..it is dirty nasty stuff ] BUT! ...Actually I have shot some 62 grain Wolf in mine as a whim and it shot better than any of the other stuff I had tried...  the handi supposedly doesn't like 62 grain bullets...guess they for got to tell my rifle that at the factory.... Corse I'm still without a good consistent load for this rifle....

Well I don't  know about any green tip Wolf ammo.  But I bought a box of the 55 grn FMJ stuff, in the grey steel case.  Out of 20 rounds thru my 223 Ulta Varm, only 14 hit a 8-10 paper target at 100 yds.  The group, if you could call it that, was about 7 inches.  I would not waste my barrel time or money on that crap again.  It is JUNK.  How's that, is that clear enough.
Let me edit this, it was the 62 grn JUNK, not the 55 grn JUNK.

Jeff all I can say is maybe there was a customer before you that purchased the last box, and a new shipment is on the truck that could have arrived tonight.  Did you stop and ASK the Department Manager of Sporting Goods?  The price for the value packs are hard to beat.  Can't say typical Wal-Mart.... they might say, typical customer.

I can't speak for that Wal-Mart store in general, but I do know in ours we keep a well stocked supply on hand for guy's like me and a hole bunch of other guys that shoot .223 Reminton.  So tomorrow go back and talk to the Sporting Goods Department Manager and have them check with a Telxon (sounds like Telzon) so you will know.  And then when it arrives buy plenty of boxes so you have enough on hand, and then someone else can bitch about them being out of stock on something.

Wow. I like this thread about all that junk ammo I never heard of. Green,  gray and glazed cases must be made by the commies for sure. Perhaps they use dried rice for powder or fire cracker left overs.

Maybe they have adopted their production from the Russians they had three decades in a month. The first 10 days were needed to sober up from drinking too much vodka.

The second 10days were used up trying to find supplies and materials and finding out on the end of the 20 days that many parts and ingredients were still missing. What came in was was meant for a different product in a another factory.

The last days of the month were used for production trying to make the quota. The end results were much junk and rejects, what ever made the grade was below standard and a bit better junk.  Any body heard of the Junkyard Cowboys, that them. Man do I love junk it has its uses.     Fred M

Thanks again
jeff

as a side note,  the lady [girl] in sporting goods had NO clue about anytthing back there.  She said the asked her THAT morning to work back there for a while.  They need to have people in the orginization that knows sporting goods and LEAVE them there!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Fred,
I think them commies build that junk just to drive us crazy.  Love the way you think but sometimes I just can't follow you thought lines.  I love junk too, never know when a piece of junk turns into just the jewel you need.

I like 21.5 grs of 4198 set off with CCI SRPs, pushing the military 55 gr jacketed boat tail missile. Just more accurate than the store boughten ones to my notion.

26.5 grns Varget behind a 50 grn TNT is looking very good thru my 223 UV.  Had a 3 shot group this morning that was 0.630".  27.0 looked good also but opened up to about 0.700.  26.0 and 27.5 did not look near as good.  Not real bad but not sub 1 inch.

Why on earth would any American shoot ammo' for which he can very easily find American-made replacements so reasonably priced.    Sure, you may only be able to find and afford Chinese shoes, but why buy anything from a COMMIE' that you can readily replace with decent American goods?    And today, why buy from the Germans or the French after what they did to us about Iraq?

When are we going to learn who our enemies are; and how much it ultimately costs us to support those animals?    Do you really want to support slave labor and political prisoners being held by morons who don't believe in freedom?

BUY AMERICAN !

Donaldo.
You got it right, my thoughts that is. My neighbor used to come over to my garage looking for some stuff. He said Fred why don't you get rid of some the junk so I can find what I am looking for. Well, I said what kind of fun would that be, you would not have enough time to hum and haw about not finding things. Half the time he never needed anything only to come snooping. Bless his soul he is gone to heaven. Fred M.
