Recoil of the 450 Marlin
«

Can somebody please tell me what the recoil of the 450 feels like in the NEF's?
Is it comparable to a shotgun with slugs?
Has anybody tried muzzlebrakes or porting?, figured it would make one good hog or bear gun
thanks

Here's a recoil table for a comparison.

Porting makes them very very very
LOUD
and they have a nasty habit of spitting lead and copper out of them sometimes
It can kick like a proverbial mule...but not as hard as a 3" mag slug out of a 6 lb slug gun
Would make an excellent gun for bear or hogs...with... the right load of course
The downside to it...is the lack of factory ammo
If you handload...shouldn't be a problem....but if you don't...take a close look at the 45-70...it's a great catridge and comes in all kinds of loadings from mild.....to Wild

I have a model 94 in a 450.my win. is around 6 lbs..the only gun i can compare the recoil to that i've had is my 300 win. in a #1-b that went 8 lbs..I think nef's fall close to 7 or 7 1/2.mines ported, but it still does'nt help much.the power of this thing is unbeleavable.I shot through a 8 in. thick hemlock at 50 yds.the exit hole was the size of a half dollar.the bullet keep going into the bank about 6 ft. away.I have to sight mine in this coming week.if you get one have fun :-)
I'm going to use mine on a whitetail this season.

Dave. great, that way if you want venison hamburger meat, just pick it up off the forrest floor after you make the shot, no need to do it at the house.
