No-Peep long term review and concerns
« on: October 15, 2004, 03:33:06 AM »
Recently I have written about my complete satisfaction with the no-peep. My opinion is still high and I have confidence in it. However I have had a problem which made a hunt for hogs just recently a very difficult and uncomfortable situation.

Two days before I departed on the hunt I went out for my regular shooting session and my No-peep was all fogged up inside. I could still use it but just barely. Archery is a much different emotional issue for me then a firearm hunt. My mind must be in the right place with significant levels of confidence, and especially without thought or worry about my equipment. My practice and performance must be well established and the feelings I have when I'm launching arrows has to be just right.

When My No-Peep fogged up it screwed with my mind quite a lot. Fortunately the No-Peep is such a good idea that after shooting for a while with it you don't "really" need it. However it's not the need that plays with your mind, it's the lack of 100% confidence and the extra seconds it takes to shoot because of your second guessing the equipment. My hunt went well and I was successful. It would have been easier with the No-Peep working but it did not stop the success of my trip.

I spoke to the fella who makes them on the phone, about the problem. He knows of this problem, and suggested that I remove it and dry it out completely. Then reinstall and apply instant bond cement around the outside of the lens to seal it to the metal. This would prevent any moisture from entering the inside.  Well if any of you remember what was involved with the original setup of your no-Peep you will understand my apprehension about doing this in the afternoon prior to my hunt!  He said If I removed the No-peep from the bottom bracket it would install without any adjustments needed.  Hmmmm Well OK I need this thing just right..........Don't I?

I completed all the repairs drying it out and sealing it up. Then I reinstalled it and it was not really close to where my Original POI was at. .......I knew it!  Now I have the whole setup procedure to do and I'm gonna be hunting in 16 hours! I must have shot 100 arrows that day to be certain is was just right. Each time I had the thing just right and tighten the screws I move it just enough to screw it up. You guys who have done this know the drill.  What if it occured when I was hunting? Or in the morning before I left? This NO-Peep is so good that I don't want to be without it. Yet its such a pain in the ass to set up I hate that it's not just a parts change out if it should fail.

The more difficult the adjustments combined with your stress from shooting and you may actually get it zero'd with poor form when all is said and done. Then pick it up the next day and when your fresh the bow is still not just right because you set it up with less then perfect form and when you were exhausted from shooting.

I will continue to use the no-peep until somebody manufactures something similiar with click adjustments or a better way of replacement. I'll just always be in a panic that it will crap out on me when I need it most.
