What would you like to see Remington chamber their 2005 Classic edition rifle in?
I would like to see a: .22Hornet, .218 Bee, .358Win, or 416Rem.Mag :grin:

The 280 Remington was Remington's 1997 Classic. I have one and love it. The 280 Remington is an outstanding cartridge. I would like a "Classic" in 308 Winchester!!! :grin:

Unfortunately, the 6mm Rem. and the .35 Whelen have also already been chambered in classics of the past. Although, I would love to see Remington repeat a few of the greats, like the Whelen. I second Graybeard on the 9.3 x 62. :grin:

I also agree with Graybeard, the 9.3X62 is a true classic cartridge. I'd buy one in a heartbeat!

After due consideration, I have changed my opinion about the cartridge Remington should chamber the 2005 700 Classic Rifle in. My vote now goes to the grand 'ole 30'06 cartridge. Is there a more "classic" cartridge?

Yes, I know Remington chambered this one early in the 700 Classic production before this rifle became a one cartridge per year affair.

i bet the do the 30-06 in 2006. makes more sense to sell something that will have its 100th birthday in that year.

if the calibre is right i might just look at getting one.

I think you may be on to something. The 30-'06 In the 2006 Model 700 Classic. I hadn't thought about that. In that case, what about the 270 Winchester? Another "classic" cartridge they haven't done yet.

Well, they've announced the 2005 chambering . . . and it's the .308 Win. Now I know that it's a nice performing round and such, but this is about the most boring choice they could have made.

Yup 308, how many 308's does a guy need. It's just too practical (boring) of a cartridge. At least it's a 24" 1-10 twist. I was hoping for a 6.5 of some sort or maybe a 7 BR.

I would say Remington should chamber the European's 8x68 "S" Magnum
in M700 Classic, this is an excellent cartridge(Beltless case with 300 Win/Weath performance), I wrote some tib bit info. about this fine cartridge in Medium bore Forum back in early Nov.. Now, that Remimgton has made a selection for 2005's Classic. How about next year?
We need to keep the 8mm dia. going with last year's classic (8x57 Mauser)
and Winchester's new introduction of 325 WSM. New bullets are coming
out now !! Everybody talking about having a different Cartridge, here it is, originated in 1939 in europe,way ahead of its time. Again, I vote for the 8x68 'S" Mag. !!
