We are in the process of developing a new high end 2-7x40 and are currently doing some surveys to see which reticle style we should implement into this scope for big game hunting. The new scope will have a light transmission factor that exceeds 96% and will be available by spring of 2005 (maybe sooner). It will be a part of our new Safari Series.

If you already own a scope which you feel has the perfect reticle, please include the brand name of the scope and the reticle name should the brand list the name of the reticle.

We greatly appreciate your input

Any of the standard duplex reticles as seen in Leupold and Bushnell Elites is fine and is actually my personal preference for a hunting scope which is what a 2-7 scope is.

I highly urge you to rethink it being a 40mm objective scope. As you no doubt know I'm not a supporter of large objective scopes on hunting rifles. I think a 36mm is as large as any scope with a max magnification of 7X should have. That gives you over the 5mm exit pupil the average eye can effectively use. And it keeps the over all size and weight of scope more reasonable.

This is the worst trend I personally see in modern hunting scopes from most all manufacturers is they are too dang big and too danged heavy. A good 2-7 hunting scope will be less than 12" long and weight 12 oz. or less and have an objective of not more than 36mm with a 35mm being the ideal to me.

You make THAT scope with the optical qualities you mention and ruggedness to hold up in use and you'll have a scope I can use and endorse to the world.

That's the view from here.

I have a Pentax Lightseeker 2x8 and a Burris Signature 1.5x6 with a duplex reticle that is bold enough for woods hunting but not too thick to prohibit shooting a small target. I also have a Leupold VX2 1x4 with the standard duplex reticle and it's too fine for my taste. After this deer season I'm going to have it changed to a German #4. I'm sure the reticle size is ok for younger eyes as is.

My favorite scope is a Kahles with the TDS reticle.  But I do not think this is what you are looking for in a 7x scope.

All of my scopes are Leupolds and all have the Leupold Dot installed in them.  The converging post crosshairs that narrow down to a "floating dot" offer me the best of both worlds with the crosshairs aiding in target aquisition and the dot for precise aiming.

I think if most hunters had the opportunity to shoot this reticle alot, many would prefer it over the more traditional styles.

You can't go wrong with traditional duplex-style reticles, especially in a 2x-7x series.  I'm starting to like the ballistic style plex reticles, but those are more useful, if at all, on higher powered scopes.

I think Leupolds modified #4 German post is a good start...but would make it  with a  thinner  horizontal hair or a duplex that steps down to give a more open center post would be nice...I know most prefer a thicker cross hairs for DG...but,since I don't hunt DG...I hunt deer ...and  hunting whitetails can vary in terrain going from a few feet to several hundred yards...and a 40mm scope isn't that much larger in size or weight than say a 33mm scope like in the Leupold line...but can understand the needs and wants of others to this regard...so the objectives size isn't a major concern of mine....
