I know the 6mm JDJ is based on the 225 Winchester but I'm not sure what the #2 is based on. Anyone know?

225 also.  The first has theh original 225 shoulder angle and taper while the #2 has 40 shoulder.

And the winner is, "ContenderNut."  Here is the story:

It's based on the 225 win case......this is the story on why the 6 JDJ #2 is #2......

This is all per SSK..........I asked the question back in Feb of 2001......here is the response:

"Sir, the orginal 6mm JDJ was supposed to have a 40 deg shoulder but the
reamer came in with the same shoulder as the 225, so we kept it, and ordered
a new reamer with the shoulder it was supposed to have in the first place,
thus the #2."

Now you know!

the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey said. I was considering getting one in carbine or pistol, but read somewhere that JD didn't really like the caliber, not having any good bullets for deer sized game? I still wanted the chambering, but anyone have any luck with a good 6mm bullet, in the velocity range of the 6mm JDJ#2? Seems like they are well below say a .243.

i'm not sure of a 6jdj#2 velocity but the sierra 80gr single shot pistol bullet worked great out of my 13" 6br. i also questioned sierra on use of the 80gr blitz bullet on deer. they said it should be just about perfect in my 6tcu. bob milek used the 80gr speer spitzer with success. he also used the sierra 80gr sspb, i'm pretty sure. the nosler 80gr balistic tip, hornady 80gr sspb, and nosler 85gr partition would work in my opinion. course i'm no expert, but i'd shoot one in a second with any of the mentioned bullets and unless i goofed, i'd be eatin some deer steak. in my opinion, a bad shot with a 375jdj is no better than a bad shot with a 6jdj. :o
