Re-barrel M77 with heavy

Will Ruger re-barrel an M-77 with a heavier barrel?  I've got a 270 that my nephew put a small goose egg in.  I had a Gunsmith cut and re-crown  it and it's now less than 21".  It shoots good, and I doubt I would re-barrel it, but wondered if a heavier barrel is an option.

Mostly-,
I'm not sure Ruger would rebarrel  to a heavy barrel or not, but you could get a smith to do it. You would need to get a new stock if you went much bigger. As it is now you have a good hunting rifle with the 21" barrel.
Good luck..............Joe.........

Because the barrel is now somewhat shorter it is also somewhat more rigid, and tends to be somewhat more accurate.   I'd leave it alone because the .270 is capable of getting so much out of even a 22" barrel -- and you really haven't lost that much.     Incidentally, the barrel time being reduced on this rifle might, I say might, help the barrel last a little longer.....though probably not by too much.

I think about such things because in the past, up until this summer, I'd put a lot of rounds through a rifle in one shooting session.    I didn't have the time to replenish my ammo as I used to.

I wouldn't do anything to it.     It is now a little handier than it used to be, and hasn't lost that much in velocity.

Take care,
