Hay S. Sumner - the only thing I ever found in Carrollton, Ga. was an original blonde student at the university there (lol). Actually, I found 3 of them, but not all at once (double lol).
Those Japanese 6.5s are some, or can be some nice rifles. The quality, especially in a pre-war or early wartime production, can be very high. Your's might have the crysanthemum (sp?) still stamped on the barrel. And, don't let anyone kid ya about the ability of the 6.5 Arisaka round, it will do the job.
BigBill - I too have always passed on those rifles because I didn't know anything about the actions and had always heard the wrong thing from the wrong people - the same ones who said that because a Mauser was German made it wasn't any good - ha. Those Arisakas are strong enough. They came in two calibers - the 6.5x52 (I believe) Arisaka and the 7.7 Arisaka. I believe the 7.7 was just a slightly overbore 30-06 that would chamber in the Japanese rifles but not our Garands. I also understand the japanese built a few Garand type rifles in the 7.7 caliber.
