Shotgun scope question
« on: October 16, 2004, 03:02:36 PM »
Will a bushnell sportview scope with 1.75-4.5x power work good on a ultra slug hunter 12 ga. i just purchased one and wanted people opinions on this, it didn't have a box so the manager sold it to me for $49.00. It is a matte finish im not sure what mm lens it has but there is not taper at the front of the scope it stays the same mm as the tube is...i shot this gun yesterday and it grouped very well, also how tight should i tighten the mount screws...can i actually tighten them so much to ruin the scope?

MIdeerhunter, your new scope in question should be fine. Good field of view for a shotgun scope.
If your gun seems to like it then that's what is important, that plus range time to get familiar with the gun/scope combo and you're ready for the field.
Yes, it is possible to overtighten scope rings. I have never done it myself but it can happen. Good and snug works best for me. Some folks use blue Loc-Tite on the mount screws, I never have but don't have scopes on my heavy recoiling guns.

There are lots of knowledgeable folks on this board who will add to or correct anything I posted here. Give the guys a bit of time to find and read your post and you'll get some good advice.

Good luck this season.

What is the eye relief on that scope?  You might want to be careful so that you don't end up with scope eye...

Well now...That would just about do it.  6" is more than enough.  Heck, my Bushnell Trophy is 3.5" I think...Never got bit so 6" is even better.
