Difference between Mod 30 and 336 Marlins?
« on: October 16, 2004, 06:13:42 PM »
I just acquired a couple of 30/30 lever guns by Marlin. One is a Glenfield 30A and one is a Western Field Mod 740  A-EMN. The Glenfield actually has, on the barrel "Marlin Fireams Co. North Haven Conn" stamped on the barrel. The Western Field does not.

While doing a bit of research on these guns I came across Marlin Model 30s and Marlin Model 336s... and I am wondering what might be the difference.

Mechanical, or cosmetic, or both?

Thanks in advance for whoever fills me in. Also any info on the two guns mentioned above would be welcomed.

Cheers
Kerry

Take a look at this (unless you posted it, of course):

According to Marlin the Glenfield line of rifles was built for big box retailers of the time and does not have as high a quality wood stock. They just said it's hardwood , as far as the workings go i think they're the same on the 30 and the 336.
I had one of the glenfield 30GT's when i was a kid 30+ years ago and it was a shooter. Someone else wanted it more than me when I was a teenager and broke my truck window out to get it!

Who was the big retailer then? Sears?

Dad bought mine at JC Penny's
