Cases stuck in cylinder?
« on: October 17, 2004, 08:46:45 AM »
Does anyone know why fired cases, left in the cylinder over night, would refuse to eject using the ejector rod, in a Freedom Arms, .454 Casull?

The day before, they would eject the Corbon's 265 grain bonded core w/o any problems..... a total of 15 rounds were fired.  (The last five were left in the cylinder over night)

might be thermal expansion. When warm metal grows when it cools it shrinks. Still I have never heard of this happening before.

Pull the cylinder out and stick it in the freezer over night. The brass may shrink enough to come out.

Talk to Freedom Arms.  They will be happy to discuss the problem with you, suggest solutions, and take corrective action if need be.  That's the place to start.  Buddy of mine had problems with a jacked bullet in his reloads.  Turns out he loaded bullets that were too soft for the pressures of the .454 and were expanding too much in the forcing cone.  Freedom Arms told him to try a different bullet (solved the problem) but if it was a gun/forcing cone problem, to ship it to them.  They told him they would put a new barrel on the gun and have it back to him in less than a week as it was almost hunting season here.  I have never had a lick of problems with my Freedom Arms but I'm sure they would like to know what is happening with your's.  44 Man[/i]
