I'm confused, but for me that's common, why are you adding anything to a sewer system??  Or are you refering to a septic system?  If that's what we're talking about, horse manure will do the same thing as Rid-Ex, and yes, it does work. Apparently it is the correct bacteria to dissolve the solid wastes.

Why would you take a sewer system camping in the first place?  Do you have a outhouse at the camp or something?

If you are refering to a spetic system, then yes you need bacteria of somekind to keep the system working properly.  Never tried horse manure!  Ridex is usually easier to get into the house and into the toilet.

Not an answer exactly, but the river flooded out the campground waste treatement plant at a local park. The park manager told me that after talking with the state experts, he was directed to requisition 2,000 gallons of ... human waste, for want of a more colorful and direct term, in order to "reprime" the system.

He did, and a week later it caught another freak flood and he had to buy another 2,000 gallons. So, the next time somebody tells you "I'm not in the sh*t business", tell them they're missing a profitable opportunity.

I swear it's true, not even I could make up a story like this.
