Need assistance with scope setup on 700 BDL
« on: October 18, 2004, 11:05:00 PM »
Hello,

I purchased a remington 700 bdl (left hand) in 30-06. It will be used for deer hunting and hopefully elk in the future

I have read many posts on this forum and selected the Bushnell 3200 in 2X7X32 for a scope.

I am just confused as to what height rings I will need and which base to purchase. I ruled out the 1 piece bases.

Will a Burris 2 piece mount with Burris high 1" standard signature rings be a good setup for the scope? Or would the medium rings be better?

Or do I just have it all wrong? Heh...

Any advise would be appreciated.

muskybite,

Your Burris 2 piece bases will work fine for you, but you do have the ring height wrong.  You do not need high rings, you can get buy with a low ring or a super low, depending on manufacturer.  But if you go with a signature rings, than you will have to go with a medium. I would just recommend going with a low ring. That will suit you just right.

If you're not going to use the sights for a backup, I like Talley one piece rings. They aren't expensive and the base is part of the lower half of the rings. I used them on my Rem 7600 and love them. I took the sights off of my rifle.

I have several similar set ups on R700s. I always use either the Burris Dual Dove tail base and low rings or Weaver base and Burris Zee rings. Either way get the Signature rings. There will be no need to lap the rings and no damage to your scope will occur as it too often does with other rings. Also in the unlikely event something is off and you need a lot of adjustment to get sighted in you can use the offset inserts to cure this without having to take your scope so far out of optical alignment. I use no other set up than the above on any of my rifles for which one or the other is available.

Thanks for the assistance.   I went with the burris dual dovetail setup with med signature rings.  :D

I had initially wanted to use see thru sights so I could use the rifle sights, but  I decided it would be a poor setup and I would rather use my raging bull for close shots anyhow.
