My friend got a new 2000 CVA Eclipse Muzzleloader for his birthday a couple years ago. He only shot it once and put it away. He decided he wants to use it for deer season this year. I'm trying to help him get it ready and convert to 209 for use with pellets. The problem is I can't get the original breech plug out. It is definately siezed. Any secrets, suggestions, tricks or spells to put on it to get it out? Any and all helpful suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If your friend did not clean the "dry" the gun thoroughly after shooting it the plug may be siezed up good. You may have to take it to a gunsmith to get it removed. Severe corrosion in the barrel and breech area is also very likely.

If you can't remove the plug via normal means and tools you might try standing the gun upright and shoot a fair amount of PB Blaster or any other good brand of penetrating type oil down in it and let it soak for a few days then try again to break it loose. If that fails, take it to a gunsmith.

Send the barrell assembly to CVA. They will fix, chase the breachplug threads, and most likely provide a new plug... They did mine for $15.
Hell the new plug goes for at least 10 bucks at a gun store...

I'm not familiar with the CVA eclipse so this advice might be useless. If so please ignore it and forgive me.

Pour some liquid wrench in there and let it sit overnight. Find a socket wrench that fits the breech plug. Place the barrel in a padded vice and use a long handled socket wrench. That should give you the leverage you need to get that plug out.

I seized up a plug good once and this method worked for me.

At least this explains the merit of removing the breech plug for cleaning everytime after shooting is finished, even just once. :wink:

Thanks for the advice guys! Will give it all a try. He did clean it after shooting but didn't remove the breech plug. I didn't know him then or would have advised him on proper cleaning method. He was new to muzzleloading at that time. I'm trying to set him on the right path now.

If all else fails will take it to a gunsmith.
