RANGE REPORT 270 WINCHESTER ENCORE BARRELS
« on: October 21, 2004, 03:46:25 AM »
I am a new ENCORE owner and so is my stepfather. We both got stainless receivers. Mine is camo and his is black. We both have 270 win barrels. Mine is blued and his is stainless. We both used winchester 130gr silvertip ammo. Using a six power scope mine shoots 1/2 to 3/4 groups at 100yds. My stepfathers shoots exactly the same. We were shooting his rifle with the scope set on eight power.  Both of these guns are new out of the box. I cleaned them before shooting them. Then proceeded to sight them in. I am amazed at how accurate and stable the guns are. If the other caliber barrels are as accurate as the 270 win barrels this is going to be a lot of fun! I want a barrel in 243 and in 45/70.  I saw an 18 inch barrel with muzzle break for sale in the 45/70. It is the KATANDEN style??? I may have spelled that wrong. What is that??? How is it different from a regular barrel??

The 18" 45/70 with muzzle break is the kahatdin carbine style barrel.  I haven't heard anyone complaining about them.  You may need a new forearm for it.  I just had a regular contour 24" blued 45/70 barrel cut down the 18" and french grayed, a stainless type finish.  I am very pleased with the handling of the 18" 45/70.  I put a williams peep site on it and it makes for a great fast handling carbine.  You can't go wrong with the encore systems.
