SS bbl 'smithing and Pb loads
« on: October 21, 2004, 09:34:58 AM »
Is there any problem with using a stainless-steel barrel from Shilen for cast lead bullet shooting in either:

difficulty for my gunsmith to work with (will he b!tch at me for going SS)?

performance and accuracy with 32 Miller Short breech-seated loads?

Thanks in advance,

As long as you're using their select match grade barrels that have been lapped you shouldn't have any problems at all. You might end up wanting to break it in using jacketed bullets, and once it quits giving any copper fouling then clean it real well and switch to cast. As for the 32 MS, I haven't got any experience with it but it wins most of the schutzen matches so it is up to the task if you are! You might talk with your 'smith to make sure he has the proper chambering reamer.
"Give me a lever long enough, and a place to stand, and I'll break the lever."
