New Marlin Shotgun
« on: October 23, 2004, 09:46:26 AM »
Just returned from visiting several sporting goods stores on the day before general big game season opens. A lot of hunters in long lines means there is a lot of time to browse.

Looked to see if they might have one of the new classic models in when I saw what I thought was a new H&R shotgun. Looked at the hang tag which said, "Marlin Model 200, 12 gauge, 3 inch chamber, modified choke, $100.00.

Checked the writing on the barrel, sure enough, a Marlin Mdl. 200.

Next went to the most recent Marlin catalogue, no such gun listed.
This gun has a blued barrel, case hardened receiver and straight grip stock.

Has any one else seen one of these or am I behind the times?

Though I'm no expert and I don't know this is fact I seem to remember That after the Marlin buy out they H&R/NEF factory did a run stamped with marlin. The price is about in line with what they go for on gunbroker. I don't know why, unless you were a marlin collector, you would pay more for one of these than a new pardner. Was it new? I thought this was just one run years ago.

The Marlin shotgun was brand new. It did look as though the finish on both metal and wood might be a little better than a Topper. The straight grilp stock  looks like the youth Topper shown on the H&R web site, although this one is for an adult.

That's interesting. All of the ones I'd seen had a pistol grip stock just like the pardner.Maybe they just did a small run like that to test the market for a straight stocked model. Now I'm curious, gotta do some diggin.

The Model 200 was a special run by NEF with the Marlin name on it done for K-Mart about 3 years ago.I bought my grandson one in 12 gauge.
He was 15 then. Now he's 18 and a single barrel just doesn't get it for him.
Anybody need a good Marlin?
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.
