Brown Precision; Glass, Kevlar, Graphite

This is an extension of Hornetx60's post on the Brown Precision Silo stock.

Brown list the weights of the Fiberglass stock as 1# 12oz and the Kevlar stock as 1#6oz.  Has anyone invested the extra $110 for the Kevlar to save 6oz?  If so, was the Kevlar worth it?

Additionally, has anyone added the graphite reinforcing and was it worth it?

From what I have heard some gunsmiths doen't like the exotic materials like kevlar or graphite.  They can be hard to machine.  I'd ask your gunsmith before getting one.

Kevlar is nasty stuff to work with, it kind of fuzzes up if you try to sand or machine it. Carbon fiber is not a problem in this regard. We don't use kevlar and really can't find any reason to. Although these materials can be very expensive, the amount used in a stock does not really add that much expense. All our glass stocks have some cf in certain areas.

Thanks for the replys.  Looks like Kevlar is out unless I need those ozs.

Ian.  Would you add the additional graphite to the forearm for a silo rifle in 260 rem?  Seems like it is unnecessary.

If you hold in the trigger guard area the front end is just there for looks. If you want things more rigid then add most of the front to the grip area.
