Low light scope?
« on: October 23, 2004, 04:28:04 PM »
I do a lot of deer hunting late in the afternoon and its legal to shoot in NC until a half hour after sunset.  I currently have a bushnell sportview 4-12x40 on a savage 270.  Its always a struggle to see the deer in the scope during the last few minutes of shooting light and I am considering upgrading to possibly a leupold VX II on a new rifle.  My question is will I see enough of an improvement to justify purchasing a more expensive scope?

Low light scope?

Yes you will. For about the same money you can get a Nikon Monarch 3x9 and they are in the VX III's league. My son has a Vari X III 2.5x8 and a Monarch 3x9 and rates the Nikon as good if not better. While the Sportview scopes aren't bad for the money they just can't compete with the mid priced scopes for brightness or clarity.

I agree with Dave.  I would consider the Nikon Monarch over the Leupold VX-II.  It is cheaper and I believe better than the Leupold.

Low light scope?

Ditto on  the Monarch. For the money  it is the very best low-light scope you can buy.  Even  the Zeiss Conquest i have is no better in fading light, and it was over twice the price of the Monarch. I wish Leupold would invest in some serious low-light glass. They are good scopes too, but i believe the Monarch is better, in  ANY  shade of light you can really see the differance. :D
