As you may be aware, I'm working on the next edition of the CBA book, "Cast Bullets for Beginner and Expert".
While we need many articles for inclusion, right now I'm working on the notion of water-cooling sprues to speed up casting, explained by BB on the Cast Boolits-Aimoo site.
I've cast with and without water cooling in a single cavity 311299. Without water cooling it takes me 1hr 31min /112 and 1hr 31 min /105 good bullets to cast and visually inspect the bullets. GOOD means that they weigh +/- .2 grains max. With water cooling it took 1 hr 16 min to cast 106 good bullets.
BUT, I'm left handed, working with a right handed mold and dipper. I must put things down and pick others up and change hands and .... So I'm not representative.
So, I'd like to know how many good bullets you (right and left handers)can cast in how long. Here's what I think I need to know:
Right or left handed?
Mold/Bullet # Ex: Lyman 429360
#Cavities Ex: Two
Pot/Capacity Ex: Lee 10 lb.
Good Bullets Cast Ex: 167
Definition of "Good" EX: visually inspected, inspected under magnifier, weighed, etc. whatever you do.
Time required Ex: 1 hour 26 minutes -this is the time required to cast the bullets, not including pre-heating the pot or mold, and only including some visual inspection duing casting, if you do that.
Notes: Water quenched or used 2 molds at the same time or 2 pots or kept mold on hot plate or visually inspected during casting or water-cooled the sprue or fan-cooled the mold or?
??
Anything you can tell about the casting that affects time required will help. Tell it all, we need to know!!
(I was surprised to find that it took me 3 hours and 2 minutes to cast, inspect, weigh, GC and lube 105 of the 311299s.)
