NAA Minis?

Anyone have one? Is the quality decent?

I really have no reason for one, I just think they are kinda cool. I have a Kahr PM9 on order for a concealed carry, and a .22 isn't the ideal self defense caliber anyway, but I might carry it as a backup gun or just for screwing around when out shooting with friends.

Any opinions on them?

lol! That's the way I look at it. Is it fun to shoot? It looks almost too small to be amusing (the gun's phisical size, not the caliber), seems like it would be a handfull, even in .22LR.

I would probably keep it on me sometimes too, not much, but better than a harsh word.

It is fun, i had the folding handle on mine for awhile, but decided it was bigger than the gun, so I took it off. They do make a slightly oversize rubber grip, but I dont know if it will work on the .22lr as I have only seen them on the .22mags. As an aside, a quiz in one of the shooting mags quite a  few years back was "what handgun has the most recoil in ratio to its weight"      the answer was the NAA .22mag. That was before the 45/70 derringers and stuff like that, so I dont know if it would still be so. Where its legal, it should also make a good easy to carry gun to finish a down but not out animal if you dont want to blow another big rifle hole in him.

I have a NAA Black Widow in .22 mag

It is pretty neat and very easy to conceal. I carry it almost everywhere that I go. Like a previous poster mentioned, I'd rather have my Black widow with me than be caught with nothing at all.

And yes it is fun to shoot, I was very happy with the accuracy produced by such a small firearm.

I like to switch to the Black Widow after firng my 8.375".454 Raging Bull at the range LOL! The Widow draws more attention than my RB does  :-D

I have a friend that carrys one of these little jewels in his left ftont pocket everywhere he goes. He shoots it a lot with his weak hand. At the range the other day he was hitting a 4'x2' metal plate 2 or 3 out of 5 shots @ 100 meters! I could hit it also but not as frequently as he. My "Oh Sheet" gun now is a Kel tec P-32. I bet I own one of these mini revolvers one of these days--Damn, got to have one!!

The NAA 22 is an awesome gun.  You just need to keep the size in perspective.  Someone with larger hands, like myself, may have a hard time holding onto the tiny grip.  However, someone with smaller hands may find it quite comfortable.  For instance, my daughter seems to have no difficulty with the smaller grip of the NAA 22.  Unfortunately for her though, I have not yet let her shoot it.  I think that she is still a bit young and may need to wait a few more years, as she is only 5 days old.  Sure wish I knew how to post a picture on here, she sure is cute holding her brand new gun on her birthday.

I have large hands, N-Frame sized hands. I had a .22 LR version, and when I fired it, the gun would end up pointing straight up at the sky. There are larger "target" grips but by the time you put them on, you are in the size range of bigger, more accurate, more powerful guns.

My .22 Mag/.22LR version sits in the box, wearing the bigger target grips. In that configuration, I find I prefer to carry a Colt Mustang PocketLite .380.

If you buy one, may I suggest that you buy the .22 Mag/.22 LR version?  If you decide to use it as a defensive pistol, the .22 Mag will put you in the same ballpark as a .380 in terms of power. Also, the .22 Mag grip frame is a little thicker than the .22 LR, and this difference may be enough to give some of you the grip you need to keep this pointed at the target.

The quality of the NAA mini revolver is good.  Based on my own personal experience, I would make the following recomendation if you were going to carry one.  Buy the 22 LR/22 mag convertible model but carry it with the LR cylinder in it.  The reason for that recommendation is as follows.  The LR only model has a grip that is so small that it is vey hard to hold onto when firing it.  The magnum or convertible model has a larger grip.  However the magnum cartridge doesn't develop much power out of the short barrel.  I had a magnum model with the 1 inch barrel.  I ran a penetration test between the 22 magnum out of the NAA, 22 short out of a Beretta Minx, and 22 LR out of an Iver Johnson TP22.  The magnum penetrated the least of the three!  That's right, even the 22 short out penetrated the magnum.  The LR penetrated the most of the three.  The 22 magnum was designed as a rifle cartridge and uses a slow burning powder.  In that shot barrel it just didn't develop enough velocity.  From my experience, I think that the magnum out of about a 4 inch barrel equals a LR.  With longer barrels the magnum pulls well ahead of the LR.

There is quite a difference between the 22LR and the 22MAG in the little NAA revolvers.  I have a 22LR/22MAG convertible with a 1 5/8" barrel.  I have carried it nearly everywhere for years.  If you look in the Technical section of the NAA web site, you will find ballistics tables for all their guns in a large variety of ammo selections.

According to the manufacturer:

22LR best velocity in 1 5/8" barrel (29 loads compared):
        Federal Classic 31gr HP  -  908 fps
        (I had always heard CCI Stingers were best, but they
        are a close third behind the Remington Yellow Jacket)
22MAG best velocity in 1 5/8" barrel (9 loads compared):
        CCI Maxi Mag +V 30gr HP  -  1283 fps

I think 375 fps ( 41.30 %) is quite a significant difference and that is why I carry the 22MAG cylinder for personal defense (when I can't carry a real gun of course).

I find the larger grip on the 22MAG frame much more manageable for my large hands than the tiny grips on the 22LR frame.  I have just installed the oversized rubber grips on the 22MAG and they are a BIG improve over the regular grips on the 22 MAG.  These rubber grips fit my large hands very well.  I have not had them to the range yet, but I expect a big increase in ACCURACY and SPEED.

The 22MAG frame with the oversized rubber grips are the ultimate carry package in a NAA Mini for those of us with oversized hands in my opinion.

Right now I have a NAA mini in 22mag in my left rear pocket. It is a department gun, I just checked it out to play with to see if I like it. It's loads of fun to shoot especially at outrageously long range. For me the grips are a one finger proposition and it allmost jumps out of my hand when I fire it. Still, changing to larger grips wouldn't make much sense to me as it would make the gun much bulkier that it needs to be. If I go to a larger grip there'll be a larger gun attached to it!

The oversize grips only add about 1/4" in overall length and 1/2" in overall height of the gun.  These rubber grips are not nearly as large as the folding grip/holster thing is.  The gun is still just as concealable and carryable, it is just a lot more shootable.  It has finger grooves that basically gives you a 2 finger purchase on the gun instead of a 1 finger purchase on the gun.  Even with the oversized grips, it is still very light and quite small.

To each his own, but try it, you might like it  !!

Sorry I didn't read your post more carefully! You're right, the grips on the mag are better than the LR grips and still small enough to conceal well. I thought you were talking about the big folding grips!---------Sorry,------ I have my head out now. I see so many people buying a small firearm for CCW and making a big gun out of it by adding the extended mags and larger grips, then stuffing it in a thick leather holster. What they end up with is a small gun in a large gun package. By the way I like the little NAA in the mag config. Makes a great little pocket gun!

I was just wondering if anyone has shot the Aguila 60 gr stuff in a Naa Minni.  It is formulated to shoot out of a pistol and should penetrate pretty good.  If you have let us know.

This is all very interesting.  The volicity was about what I expected but I guess I expected more penetration.  I used to carry Stingers in my NAA Mini and it looks like that is still one of the best choices.
