My new 6.5 JDJ was broken in today with the cooperation of a mature Georgia whitetail doe.  She was browsing on the acorns in front of my new stand at about 35 yards.
 
One shot and about 50 yards later she laid down to rest.  The post mortem was something you almost have to see to believe.  It is amazing how far a deer can move after a catastrophic hit in the heart-lung area.
 
Somewhere I read that someone said the 6.5 JDJ was deadly on deer sized game.  From this one experience that person is right.  
 
Georgia has a generous bag limit for deer.  10 deer without antlers and 2 with.  Should the herd cooperate more reports will follow.

How versatile is the reloading data from SSK?

Does this case seem to like only ..say...4350?

Any data with faster powders for some of the lighter bullets...say..Speers 90 grain TNT, or Hornadys 95 grain AMAX?

Kiv, my barrel loves the 120's,sub MOA with about any of them. I get about 1" or less with 85's and a lot more speed So I hunt ground hogs with them.I have tried Quite a few powders in the 6.5jdj. Some are accurate but way too slow for my tastes.Jd will send you data for HIS barrels but not some body else's.(at least that's what I was told)" HIS" includes rechambers done by him.This is about the cheapest way to get a 6.5jdj,buy a 6.5tc/u and send it in for rechambering!

jhalcott has it about right in my experience.  This is my first rechamber and so far the only problem I have is these new glasses I have.  These progressive bifocals are giving me fits.
 
JD lists from 3 to 12 different powder for each bullet.  Al lot a Accurate Arms but he covers most of the available powders in the correct burn range.
 
How did I do jhalcott?

You did real good Z!  Since each barrel is different and MAY prefer a slightly different recipe, I hesitate to give out loads.

No joy at #1 Killdeer Lane yesterday or today.  I did see a flock of turkeys on Friday.  
 
After that encounter and a few others I believe they are much more aware of what is in the trees than deer.   They had me pegged from the start and watched me like a hawk, or like a turkey.

DO NOT SHOOT A TURKEY WITH THE 6.5JDJ. Imade that mistake one year and blew off the entire off side.Cleaning was an easy chore,though.

My friends and I have often debated shooting turkeys with rifles..yes/no...what bullet if at all...this debate started as I arrived late to hunt with everybody allready out in the field. I watched 3 large gobblers walking towards me in the valley below..about 300-350 yards. I was readying my M1A for target shooting and was tempted with NATO ammo..but since I didn't know where hunters were all located...did not shoot and wisely so....

We always seem to come back to using a FMJ bullet...

A fmj would be tough to find for the 6.5 JDJ; you'd likely have to use some pulled military bullets or somesuch..any thoughts as to meat damage with a fmj ????

Meat destruction is also related to bullet speed.Faster slugs= more destruction.A few sources of military fmj's exist but are drying up quick. A guy COULD turn a bullet around  and shoot it base first IF he had to.He'd be advised to use a load of powder that produced less velocity SAFELY too. OF course I'd NEVER advocate such a practice.A 22rf will work on a turkey at reasonable ranges and wont hurt a lot of meat.Hornets and 221s also work.To hit a turkey head at any range the gun/bullet/load must be VERY accurate.Since turkeys are always craning their necks or moving their heads,patience is more than a virtue.BUY a shotgun!!

Not being a Turkey hunter I had no desire to shoot one of the rascals.  The season for them here in Georgia is in the spring.  Bugs galore.  And then some.

Why not just keep the TCU? The JDJ uses 50% more powder to get 10% more Velocity. I'll keep my 6.5 TCU.

AAHH Jim,why buy a ford when you can drive/push a Chevy?
  It all comes down to what one WANTS. Having both the 7tc AND 7br,I can tell you there is a difference!There IS a difference in the 308 & 30-06 to.  Wouldn't you like to ,just once,drive a Messarati?
