The 257 WSSM has ballistics similar to the 25-06.  Are the '06 owners trading in their rifles en mass?  If not, what's holding them up?

Why would they? If it does no more than match .25-06 ballistics and it seems it really doesn't "quite" do that even then why trade in to it? The old .25-06 has been getting the job done for a LOONG time before this new fangled fat round came along.

Magazine writers are paid to go gah gah over it and all other new things. That's how they keep their jobs. The review of it I loved the most was by Boddington. He couldn't show a group with it that looked better than about 3" supposedly at 100 yards and he didn't claim any better either. Then bragged about how accurate it was. Give me a break.

Dusty Miller,

While I am a BIG FAN of the “Quarter Bores” and I dearly love all my .25-06’s, the .25 WSSM my son bought his wife(a Win. M70 Coyote) has lived up to everything Winchester said.  Am I going to get rid of any of my .25-06’s(any or all three of them) in favor of the .25 WSSM, NO.  Will I ever buy one of the new .25 WSSM, MAYBE.  I would have much preferred that Winchester had brought out the .257 WSM like everyone believed they would BUT.....  Lawdog

I think I smell some sarcasm in Dusty's post. Maybe it's just that haven't bathed in a while.

I'm keeping my 25-06. I am always looking for less gun. Magnum is a show with Tom Selleck in my house. Then again, the deer on my place just fall over dead from exhaustion as I chase them around and miss. I'm thinking about just waving a stick at them if TN would ever make up their mind on when rock and stick season starts.
