Hey all-

Have been a rifle shooter all my life and considering getting into crossbow.  I have been looking at that Parker 150lb Safari-Magnum Crossbow with Synthetic Camo Stock, http://www.parkerbows.com/safarimagnum.html#

Is this a good choice for my first bow?  Also, what accessories will I want to purchase for it?  What kind of broadheads do you guys like?

What kind of scopes do you use?  Does Bushnell or Leupold happen to make anything in the line for crossbows?

Parker makes a nice xbow but I prefer an Excalibur.They make a terrific recurve hunting xbow from 150lb draw to a a 225 lb xbow, with speeds of 285- 350 fps. They also have all the accesseries you'll want for your xbow

Very good Information HuntingGuy from Digger and I can back him up as I have eight Excaliburs...

Digger neat Big Bird but I could hear nothing, it did kinda like show it in sentace's. :-D  Wher or what is the vocal/bird ?

Thanks so much for the replies guys, I really like that excalibur ExoMag with the 200 lb.  I live in Minnesota, but would like go on a Whitetail crossbow hunt eventually.  Which draw weight would you recommend for the best penetration?  Would 200 work well?  Also, what broadheads do you guys like?

And what kind of scopes can be installed on the xbow?  I am a Leupold guy, wonder if they make anything for them?

:D HuntingGuy any of the Excaliburs will work, I have a Exomag 200lb but have to use a crank to cock it. The best is what you can handle as I got a 9pt couple weeks ago and used my Vixen Excalibur which is 150lb draw weight and got a complete pass thru at 30 yards using Carbon laser II's with a 100grain SlickTrick 4 blade with 4" feathers.

All around Excalibur is the Exocet at 175 lbs, the fastest is the ExoMax at 225lbs. What you like is what counts so look at them all  :wink:

Congrats on the buck!  Would you recommend the scopes that Excalibur sells on the website under Accessories?  Also, what kind of accuracy can you expect out of these fine xbows at 25-30 yards?

This kind of accuracy at 25yds with my Exocet and you wont get a better scope for it than the Varizone scope from Excalibur. :D

Again HuntingGuy Digger is right on, my pic is not with my bolts still in the target but shows a ROBINHOOD with a 185LB Exomag  :-D


This was with a Excalibur Vari-Zone scope also.. :)

:-D Whats your thoughts on this Digger  :-D HuntingGuy thats telling ya not to shoot at the same spot twice with a Excalibur and Vari-Zone scope with out removing the first arrow/bolt first. If you do tou get two in one :-D

Thems is ROBIN HOODS, they are 2 twenty inch bolts that are now 1 thirty inch bolt with 6 vanes

They are driven in each other because of the deadly accuracy.

LOL no wonder I didn't catch on to the Robinhood thing  :) I decided on the Exocet I believe - and will get the accessory package with it.  I can't find the Varizone scope you guys talk of, just Excalibur "Max Zone" Scope 2.5 x 32 mm.  In the accessory kit , there is:

HuntingGuy I am going to let Digger give you a answer on the package deal. Its a nice set up but I have never purchased the package deal. It is everything you would need and as far as a whitetail deer no problem, more then enough.

set the crosshairs for 20 yds using the elevation and windage knobs same as a rifle scope. Once your on target move to 40 yds. set the speed ring (dial in front of rear eyepiece) to 300 fps and shoot your target. If its to high  or too low just change the speed lower or higher till your on target.do not use windage or elevation knobs when sighting in high yardage.once your on at 40 yds you'll be on at 10, 20, 30 , 40 and 50 yd markers.

Dont understand fully  :eek:  but I am sure I will figure it out when I get it.  How is it that it would be on at all of those distances?  Can you explain a little more?  And when you say 'on target', are you referring to on paper or on bullseye? On target is in the bulls eye to me. :-)  the scope works by the speed ring, the faster the speed ring is increased the higher the power on the scope to 4x at 350 fps. You will get a small manual for the scope in your package and it explains it better.You should join the Excalibur forum. New guys are welcomed and all questions anwsered by a host opf members. Sorry to chime in so late, but take it from an Excalibur Exocet owner, it's a great crossbow for whitetails! With the Exocet and the carbon arrows in the kit you should get close to 310 fps with 100 grain points. A reasonable maximum range on whitetails (from my experience) should be 30 to 35 yards if the deer is not on alert. The vari-zone scope has crosshairs with one aiming point above and three below the crosshairs. Set the crosshairs to be on at 20 yards, and the one above is for ten yards, the ones below for 30-40-50 yards if the velocity ring is properly adjusted. As for accuracy, I've shot groups under 2" at 50 yards, and with a well tuned broadhead/arrow combination similar accuracy is possible! It may take some experimenting to find the right combination, but I've had good luck with Wasp JakHammer mechanical broadheads, G-5 Outdoors "Montec" broadheads, and SlickTrick broadeads. The mechanicals must be double banded to prevent premature opening, though!
