Muzzleloading for Sika's in Md
« on: October 26, 2004, 07:22:39 AM »
We had a blast this past weekend.

I drove 14 hours through the night on Thursday to arrive at the property in time to get ready and walk to the stand on Friday morning.

Hunted all day, only got 1 hr sleep in the stand

got to bed at 1:30 a.m. Sat. morning.

got up at 3:30 a.m. Sat. morning.

hunted all day. skinned and quartered the spike (only got one but missed a doe).

went to bed at 2 a.m. sat night
woke at 7:30 Sunday morning and helped find a big 8 point that my father shot the night before and was on the road back to Atlanta at 10:45 a.m.

Got home at 11:45 on sunday night and I am still recovering.

25 hours of driving for 2 full days of hunting... I think I am insane with exhaustion.

That is a game animal that I have always wanted to try for. I heard that hunting sikas on the eastern shore is a blast.

They are fun. Hunting in the marsh is wet and sloppy, but so much different than any other hunting I have done. Hip waders are a must.
When I hunted them last month, they were in the rut; bugeling like elk and really moving a lot. The backstrap that I had last night was to die for. I would take one over two whitetails any day for taste. I will be back up there on the 24th-27th bowhunting and rifle hunting on the 27th. it should be a blast. I will let you know how it went.
Cheers,

willis5, I am going on the 1st of December for Sika. I am only about 2 hours away for where we are going hunting for them. I will be using my 30-06 Encore barrel. I sent my 15 inch 30-06 Encore pistol barrel in to get a muzzle break installed to make it a legal rifle length barrel. It is my carbine but with the awesome power of the 30-06.  :D

Hawk,
I know you are there now. I was just up this past weekend. got a nice doe with my '06 and ate some backstrap the past two nights. yummy.

Saw a ton or deer and heard 53 shots opening morning before 11:00 a.m.!!! Deer were moving and most of our party got some shooting. it was a blast. I am going back around CHRISTmas for late muzzleloading season. let me know how you did!

We went out today instead, I saw 2 of them at around 1000 yards away, we also had one sneak in on us and only got a quick glimpse of it. Now I want to go back.  :D

Spent the last few days chasing them with a bow,and all I've got to show for it is a couple hundred skeeter bites!

Thanks.
You had me scared at first:First search results came up with a ThermaCell ,portable hair curler!

How long does it last and can you shut it down, and later refire it?

I plan on getting back after them next week, and would like to keep some of my blood this time!
