Rookie Needs Help
« on: October 26, 2004, 10:06:43 PM »
April, 2005 will be my first turkey season. I've been reading everything I can find about the sport, but books can only teach you so much. Does anyone know of a good "Turkey Hunting Basics" video? I'm not looking for a hunting video, but instead, a video that will show me how to hunt them...
And I'm always open for advice or opinions from guys who know their stuff.

Thanks,
Michael Brigman

I have been hunting turkey since 1992.I am a self taught turkey hunter. You are in for a real treat.I would first join the NWTF.Then get you subsription to Turkey and Turkey Hunting Magizine and ever book on turkey hunting that you could afford.Get a shotgun that can shot magnum shells and pattern it to shot at least 100-150 pellets in 10 " circle @ 40 yards.Or 10 pellets in the head and neck of a turkey target. Then get some turkey calls and practice until you get goog at a few.Get a turkey vest to people everthing in.I you 3" lead turkey loads. But you will have to try different loads to get the best for your gun. Then find a place to hunt with turkeys on it.Find the scrtching and droppings.Scout and scout and scout to know your hunting land like the back of your hand.Learn what the turkeys on you hutnignland are doing year round. Then maybe you will be ready on oepning day.there is a whole lot that I cuold not to you.You will have to learn alot on you own. Good Luck with your new diease."Turket Hunting"
