Which reticle should I get?
« on: October 27, 2004, 04:26:14 AM »
Next year I want to change the reticle in my 1x4 Leupold. I'm considering the heavy duplex, German #4, and the German post. Any experience with any of these style reticle will be appreciated.

It is really all a matter of personal preference and I have used all of the ones that you mentioned.  The heavy duplex and German #4 are usually used by those who hunt during very low light conditions but are, in my opinion, too thick during regular light conditions.  I have an Elite 3200 1.5x-4.5x-32mm with the Firefly reticle and the cross hairs are just too thick for my taste.  Oddly enough, during low light conditions, the glowing reticles are, or at least appear to be, thinner at night than the reticles are during the day - which leads me to another point - illuminated reticles.  I have many scopes with illuminated reticles (most of which are electronic powered) and I love them because the reticles are regular thickness during the day, and illuminate the same regular thickness at night.  You may want to take a look at them.

Thanks Zachary for your input. I know I want a thicker reticle. I almost got the heavy duplex and talked myself out of it and I just can't see paying $60 to get what I could have had in the first place. The thought of something not available over the counter kind of interests me too.   I know the thicker reticles aren't your cup of tea. I have this scope on my 7600 so a reticle that is good for quick shots that may give up some cutting edge accuracy is ok.
