Ignorance may be bliss, but not for me. T/C offers two single shot pistols, the Contender and teh Encore(I believe they call it). What, basically, is the main differences in the two? Is a barrel off of either one interchangable on the other? Which one is best or are they designed  specifically for different uses?

Then Encore is bigger and allows you to shoot bigger cartridges. The barrels do not interchange. You can look on the T/C website see their chambering for each model. I went with the Encore so I could shoot it as a 50 cal muzzleloader and convert it to a full blown rifle if I want. You can also get pistol stocks and such if you wish to have a handrifle.

The Contender because of its design has always been limited to cartridges that generate about 40,000psi on the breach face. More and more wildcatters were pushing that limit and even exceed ding it so T/C came out with the ENCORE which can be chambered in 99.9% of the cartridges out there today. The Encore can shoot in the 60,000psi on the breach face range so you can have a 3006, 300WinMag, 7MM Mag, 257Roberts, .243Win. None of those can be chambered in the Contender. Lastly the barrels can not be interchanged between the Contender and Encore frames.

You'll love the trigger of the last generation Contender(not the G2) since it's adjsutable. The nostalgia in owning a Contender is also rewarding. You will hold both the Encore and Contender in very high regard once you own them so if you're contemplating their purchase, go for it. You'll love them.
