open up the full choke of a .410 barrel to make it modified choke?  If so is this something I could do myself or would it have to be done by a smith?  Thanks.

brett i think u might be wasting ur time doing that ? ive read a few reports on 410's and chokes , seems that they vary a little bit from skeet chokes to full at the same distances , they do open up a little more the bigger u go . but u also lose the length of the shot string, with  the open chokes the last one i seen there was a different from skeet and full was 35bb outside the 20 circle different from the skeet to full????

a while back i was considering having a 410 bored to improved cylinder or maybe modified. to compare the two, i used my browning citori 410 with and changed between skeet chokes and modified chokes. on a skeet field, i shot consistant scores, within a bird or two, over four weekends of shooting, about 16 rounds or 400 birds, 200 with each choke.

i didn't bother having the choke on the handi opened up !

Shanner, ScatterGunner, thanks for your input. After reading your comments and learning that it is a job best left to a gunsmith I have decided to leave my Topper as is.  Thanks again for your replies.
