I am thinking about getting my daughter a Rossi youth combo for her 6th birthday next May and would like to hear from owners of the combo pack (youth or adult versions).   How well does the modified .410 barrel pattern and what is it's effective range on birds and or squirrel?  Tell me about the plusses and minuses of this outfit.  Thanks

in my opinion the only minuses are the fat grip and forend but i fixed that  on mine. the .410 barrel patterns great i have killed uncountable numbers of squirrel with mine. it will reach up there and touchem too. i had mine cut back to 18 1/2" and sent it to colonial arms for screw tubes as i like a full choke. the .22 barrel is excellent. i sighted mine in with a scope (tc contender base will work on them) and remington subsonics and at 25 yds. it can cut 1 ragged hole or better. for the money you cant beat them. i paid 99$ for mine on sale a year or two ago. i now have the .410 2x 22 barrels and a .44 mag barrel. I am tryingt o find someone to ream one of my lr barrels to magnum. i am wanting to get another 44 mag too

I got the youth combo for my son's 11th birthday.  It's a great starter gun for a kid.  The Simmons short 22 Mag scope is perfect size for the gun.  The 410 barrel works fine for squirrel and rabbit.  It patterns high so I had a high-vis bead that sits higher on the barrel put on and that solved that problem.   My son likes shooting thrown clay birds so much I had to buy a Mec JR. to reload 410 shells.  He will out grow the gun in a couple more years and move up to dads 20ga sxs.  I can't wait I'll order the full size stock and dad can carry the 4 pound 410 while son carries the 6 1/2 pound double.  When I got the gun there was a lot of grit in the trigger but a few shots of Gun Scrubber took care of that.
