my freedom of speech :)
« on: October 29, 2004, 01:37:30 PM »
In times like this, the good people in the world usually rally to the cause and the bad people stand still and wait for the good people to do something that they can oppose. Right now a good example is the war on terror, and specifically the war in Iraq.

Our president has chosen to finish a battle that was started 13 years ago by Saddam Hussein. Hussein was told after Desert Storm to disarm himself and to disband his military. Hussein, knowing that the UN would never approve of military action against him, and fearing nothing else, did not respond to our orders and in fact continued to build a weapons system and to train terrorists in remote areas of Iraq.

The United States was issued a statement by the UN which was given to the UN by Hussein himself, a UN-requested written document of hundreds of pages of weapons and chemicals which Hussein was in control of or owned. This was unacceptable. Every congressman had a copy of this document and knew what was on the line. After the 9/11 attacks it became apparent that a top al-Quaeda operative had been seen meeting with some of the heads of the Iraqi regime. Hussein had long been a supporter of terrorism, and often sent money to families of suicide bombers from other countries.

Several training camps had been photographed by US military planes over a period of several years. In these photos, men can be seen acting out hostage situations using the fuselages of planes.

Several factories were also photographed which were found to be chemical warehouses.

Hussein himself appeared on Arab television stating that he felt threatened by the US and vowed to go down fighting if coalition forces ever targeted Iraq.

Hussein gassed Kurds and Iranians, using chemical weapons from his storehouses. He engaged in skirmishes and rapes and murders of his own people, those who spoke out; people who wanted the right to free speech enough to die for it. He shot missiles containing nerve agents into Iran the first week of the US-led invasion. In the early morning hours of the day we first attacked, there were dozens and dozens of armored trucks crossing the border into Syria. If there were no WMDs, what was on those trucks that we were not meant to see?

In spite of this overwhelming body of facts, and in spite of action in Iraq being approved by a landslide in congress, Democrats and liberal think-tankers continue to hurl accusations at the current administration, hoping something will stick.

Much like the old accusations of insider trading, cocaine use, absence from National Guard duty, Enron implications, and “poisoning children” by simply putting pollution standards back where they were during seven of Clinton’s eight years, Bush came out clean after a very biased investigation.

The papers and TV scream at us all day and night, trying to link Bush and/or any Bush appointee to a mistake or a slip up big enough to cause the majority to vote against him in the next election. None of the accusations has been proven true yet many people are fooled by whatever they see or hear on TV and thus these people feel empowered and “in the loop” even though the loop mostly contains lies and half truths.

At what point will a liberal argument begin to resemble just that- an argument? Why must it look like a tantrum? When will Democrats stand up for something, be consistent in that belief, and make a stand? When will there be a reasoned, logical comparison of ideas? When will we see a liberal candidate say “Vote for me because….” Instead of “Vote for me….because I am not Bush…that killer/tax cutter/racist.”?

When will our president get the credit he deserves for enacting the largest tax cut in the history of the world, which as I write this, is reshaping and lifting our fallen economy up off its knees? Instead the left points to the welfare baby-makers and drug addicts and says
“They did not get a tax refund, it all went to the rich….Bush’s peers.” Anyone know what a REFUND is? If you don’t pay for or buy anything you cannot get money back, right? Well those whiners and Have-Nots didn’t PAY any taxes, so why would they GET something back that they never gave away? Do the math, people. You liberals think your public schools are wonderful, so it puzzles me that you don’t have the basic mathematic understanding that a refund on zero dollars paid is zero dollars.

I am sick of all the fake little “investigations” into Bush, Enron, National Guard paperwork, drug use, his daughters’ behavior in college, his supposed favors from his father’s “connections,” and his “oil buddies” who by the way, are making LESS now that oil is at its highest in years. Econ 101, people….when the price of producing something goes up, the retail price also goes up, and when retail prices go up, sales go DOWN.

Does anyone remember any such “investigations” of Bill Clinton? Anyone remember anyone questioning Clinton’s intelligence? The media pretending not to notice huge, infinitely credible links from organizations to terror? Does anyone remember Clinton being bogged down daily by questions based on obvious biases? Was Clinton faulted for a bad economy in 1992 and 1993? No.

How about looking into Clinton’s past? I don’t remember the media turning the dogs loose on him. I wonder why. Perhaps because of the dozens of people who died mysterious deaths shortly after Whitewater was investigated? The tax evasion? The money laundering? The drug use? The illegal real estate deals? The hush money and the dozens of sexual assault accusations? Gee, seems like MAYBE there MIGHT be a liberal bias in the media, folks.

Clinton, like all other liberals, was played up by the press as “intelligent” and “suave” and vastly competent. The man who was impeached, disbarred by the Supreme Court, sued by many women, and the trigger man of the Blackhawk Down fiasco. Did the press cry out for justice when those young Marines died so as to draw attention from Monica and the stained blue dress? Did they wail and gnash their teeth that soldiers fell mostly to  give Bill Clinton a “tough look” on terror? Hell no, they railed against the sitting Republicans in congress and against Ken Starr, for simply doing their jobs to expose a criminal in the white house.

And since when does anyone give credence to an organization (DNC) whose most famous persons include a Vietnam vet who cannot decide which side of ANYTHING he is on, a senator who killed a woman 30 years ago by driving drunk into a lake, a man whose wife lobbies his constituents into the airlines she works for, and is all run behind the scenes by an ex-president who was impeached, and whose wife’s health care plan was SO socialistic, even New York’s elite leftists blanched and denied support.

When will liberals learn that wailing and lying and deceiving people and playing on emotions don’t work? Perhaps when their mommies pick them up off the supermarket floor where they’ve thrown themselves, and spanks them with authority?

thanks guys, i used to do a lot of writing and since this election year has been so turbulent, it made me mad and motivated enough to write that. i have often thought of sending it to the paper but i doubt it would be printed to start with, and its also a little too long for an editorial.

Matt, send it in and let them decide. By writing it you have done more than your part and more than most others. Let them decide if they print it or not. It does deserve to be printed....<><....

Be very aware of pointing fingers. Use personal introspection and make sure you are not making the same mistakes your opponent is claimed to have made.
Would agree with most of your thoughts, but on the same hand, I find you arguing opinion just as you would accuse others of.

Media bias

The media is not biased.  They take a line right down the middle.  Of the media people that is.  They don't see themselves as leftist for the same reason a fish doesn't think he's all wet.

I disagree. I think the media knows they are left of center and intentionally bias their reporting that way. They however think that that is okay because to them the left is the good. If they feel any qualms about doing more than reporting the news then they rationalize this as the ends justifying the means.
