Is the Bushnell 3200 durable enough for a Vulcan .50 cal. ?
« on: October 30, 2004, 02:29:21 AM »
I have a friend that just bought a Vulcan 50 cal. rifle, and he wants to mount one of my Bushnell 3200 10X40 mil-dot scopes on it (I have 4 of them). I have never used one on anything over a 308, and don't know if the Bushnell 3200 would hold up under the duress of the big .50 cal. rifle. Have any of you had any experience in this area? I don't want to just ruin a great scope by exceeding it's capability. Thanks in advance for any help.

I had two 50BMG rifles and both of them had Leupold scopes on them. The 50 BMG is a braked gun and has forces both forward and aft and requires a good scope. The other thing is you need a lot of adjustment. Most scopes do not give you enough adjustment for long range shooting. Most guys use the Mark4 Leupolds, IOR Valdada and the higher end scopes for there 50BMG's. Have him go to http://www.biggerhammer.net/barrett/wwwboard/ and you will get help there with your 50BMG needs.

I have an elite 3200 1.5x-4.5x-32mm on my .375H&H mag and it has performed flawlessly.  Still, a .50BMG is a lot of gun, especially with the brake.

I know many users of the .50BMG use Nightforce NXS scopes in their competition.  I own one in a 5.5x-22x-56mm Illuminated, and it is one heck of a scope - ALL the way around.  Still, at well over $1,000, it should be!
